History of the Gorai River

Ganges river is the main branch of Bangladesh. The same river is known as the Garai in the upstream and the Madhumati in the Bhati. At one time, the main stream of the Ganges flowed through the river Gorai and Madhumati, although the Hargoly-Bhagirathi was the original form of the Ganges. The Gorai river originated from the Ganges at Talbadia, 19 kilometers below Hardinge Bridge in the north of Kushtia district. River flowed through Kushtia district and entered Jhenaidah district at Ganeshpur. Then flowed along the Jhenaidah-Kushtia border and entered the Rajbari district under the village of Chadr. Then it flows along the boundaries of Jhenaidah-Rajbari, Magura-Rajbari and Magura-Faridpur districts and then flowed through Madhumati through Narail and Bagerhat districts. Modhumati later flows through the district of Pirojpur and is known as Baleshwar, and has been named Harinaghata near the estuary in the Bay of Bengal. Gorai is a very ancient river. In the past, its name was Gauri. Famous astronomer and geographer Ptolemy referred to the five faces of the Ganges in the Sea of Ganges. In it, some of the words 'Kamabri Khan' are actually some in the garay. The direction of the river Gorai and Madhumati is long and wide. The river flows through the direction of most currents. Boats and other small vessels can move in the monsoon season from Kamatkhali to Kamarkhali, but in the dry season this part becomes unpredictable.
